Does Google Allow NFC Cards for Review Solicitation? What Their Policy Says

It's the question we're asked most often: can Google penalize my business profile for using an NFC card or sticker to ask for reviews? The short answer is no, as long as you use it for what it is: a direct link to the official review form on your Business Profile.

What Google's policy states

Google Maps content policies prohibit fake content and fake engagement: reviews written by the business itself or its employees, purchased reviews, reviews in exchange for discounts or gifts, and the practice of only asking satisfied customers for feedback (known as review gating). At no point do they prohibit asking a real customer to leave their opinion.

In fact, Google encourages businesses to solicit reviews and provides a short link to share the form. An NFC card or a QR code does exactly that: it opens that same link on the customer's phone.

Why an NFC card is compatible

The NFC chip doesn't write or publish the review: it only opens the Google page. The customer decides whether to leave a review, how many stars to give, and what to write. The review is published from their own Google account, just as if they had searched for your business on Maps.

What can get you into trouble

Do not offer discounts, free coffees, or raffles in exchange for reviews. Do not first filter customers with a survey to send only happy ones to Google. Do not ask your team or family members to leave reviews. And do not take the customer's phone to write the review yourself. These practices do violate policy and can lead to Google removing reviews or restricting your profile.

How to use it correctly

Place it where the customer is already satisfied: at the checkout, on the table when bringing the bill, or at the reception when saying goodbye. Ask for feedback naturally and without conditions, and respond to all reviews, including negative ones.

In summary: Google does not prohibit the tool; it prohibits manipulating reviews. Used honestly, an NFC card is one of the simplest and most compliant ways to get more real reviews.
